WHAT IS DIRECT PRIMARY CARE?
WHAT IS DIRECT PRIMARY CARE?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a subscription based primary care model that provides member patients comprehensive primary care through unlimited office visits and 24-hour access to their providers for a fixed, fair monthly cost.

WHAT IS ADVENT DIRECT PRIMARY CARE?
Advent DPC is the newest offering from Advent Healthcare in the Waco / Central Texas market. By using the innovative new DPC healthcare model Advent is moving the traditional family practice physician model into the modern era. The relationship in this new system is between you and your doctor, not with an insurance company. With Advent DPC, patients receive the stability of an established local medical practice, as well as the cutting edge benefits of this new and exciting healthcare delivery system.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ADVENT DPC?
With Advent DPC, you know the cost of care in advance, and most office services and procedures are included in the monthly subscription. DPC members can schedule unlimited same day/next day appointments with a provider and enjoy un-rushed, extended visits that allow time for complete discussions and treatment. Providers are also accessible through multiple communication platforms, often eliminating the need for an in-person office. Advent DPC members also benefit from comprehensive care for a wide variety of conditions and injuries.

I AM HEALTHY AND DON’T EVER GO TO A DOCTOR. DO I NEED ADVENT DPC?
Advent DPC is a great source of healthcare when you are sick, but it is also designed to keep you well. Preventive Care, Physicals, Wellness Plans, and Well check-ups are all available as part of your membership. If an accident or urgent healthcare situation arises, Advent DPC providers will be ready to treat you and may be able to help you avoid a costly and time consuming ER visit. Having good plan for your healthcare is always a good idea.

IS ADVENT DPC CONCIERGE MEDICINE?
Direct Primary Care shares many aspects of care with Concierge medicine, such as providing personal care with a single physician and enhanced access to care over traditional practices. However, Concierge medicine typically charges a much higher rate for access to a physician, and still bills the patient’s insurance. Therefore, Concierge medicine simply allows the patient priority entry to the physician’s care, rather than providing DPC’s comprehensive new way to structure primary care.

ARE ADVENT’S PRIMARY CARE SERVICES ONLY FOR MEMBERS?

WHAT SERVICES DO MEMBERS RECEIVE?
In years past, family practice providers routinely helped patients with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses. The comprehensive family practice has fallen victim to the modern insurance system, where volume is the only concern. Advent DPC members are able to re-discover family medicine the way it was intended, receiving a wide range of primary care health services, in one location at a reasonable cost. Services included range from regular check-ups and sick visits to basic dermatology and orthopedic care; women’s care and pediatrics, to management of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart problems. A complete list of included services can be found here: DPC Scope of Services.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN MY ADVENT DPC MEMBERSHIP?
The range of services provided by Advent DPC is designed to fulfill 80% - 90% of the average person’s healthcare needs. Most conditions and injuries can be treated in the office during a regular visit, and many problems can be addressed through remote communications. However, there are tests and conditions which are not able to be performed in the primary care setting. For a complete list of services and testing that Advent refers to outside providers, click here: Services not provided by Advent DPC.

WHERE CAN I FIND A COPY OF THE ADVENT DPC MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT?
The Advent DPC membership Agreement can be found here:  Advent DPC Individual Membership Agreement.

ARE THERE ANY CHARGES FOR ADVENT DPC OTHER THAN MY SUBSCRIPTION?
There is no per visit co-pay or additional cost for any of the typical primary care services provided at Advent DPC. Some specialty medications, tests, and equipment require a separate charge. Anytime a separate charge is required your provider will advise you in advance, and Advent DPC will always strive to provide its members the best possible prices.

WHAT IF I NEED A SPECIALIST OR TESTING NOT PROVIDED BY ADVENT DPC?
In the event you need care or testing beyond the scope of services available from our providers, Advent will assist you with its Specialist Referral Network. First, your provider will start by communicating with a specialist about your condition and needs. In some cases, this communication will allow you to avoid a separate visit to the specialist and receive coordinated specialist care directly from Advent. If a visit to the specialist or testing center is required, Advent providers will assist with coordinating and scheduling the outside referral to maximize convenience and effectiveness. Members will also have exclusive access to Advent’s Specialist Referral Network which includes providers and testing facilities that provide fixed wholesale pricing for Advent DPC patients.

ADVENT DOES ORTHOPAEDICS TOO. WHAT IF I NEED SPECIALIZED ORTHOPAEDIC CARE?
Advent Orthopaedics is a full service orthopaedic practice that is part of the broader Advent Healthcare family. Because of this special relationship between the Primary Care and Orthopedics offices, Advent DPC members will receive a level of orthopaedic care and attention that is not attainable with any other provider in the region. Advent DPC providers have direct access to orthopaedic surgeons to receive instant consults and opinions about orthopedic conditions and injuries. Advent DPC is able to coordinate same/next day orthopaedic appointments as needed for a specialized orthopaedic office visit at a fixed price less than many co-pays. The use of shared technology means that patients of both practices never have to waste time filling out duplicate paperwork or medical histories. Additionally, all Advent DPC providers receive extra training in the handling of orthopaedic injuries and management of chronic conditions.

ADVENT DPC TECHNOLOGY
HOW CAN I INTERACT WITH ADVENT DPC PROVIDERS?
Members receive superior and unlimited access to healthcare through a variety of convenient pathways. All provider access is unlimited, and is available 24 hours per day (as needed for emergencies after hours). DPC patients can easily schedule same and next day appointments Monday – Friday using Advent’s mobile app, or by telephone. Additionally, patients and providers can communicate through HPAA compliant, secure messaging, and by video conference. While emergencies will still require patients to seek care at an emergency room, Advent Healthcare provides 24-hour on call telephone access to all Advent patients in the event of minor emergencies and acute patient needs after hours.

WHAT TECHNOLOGY DOES ADVENT DPC USE TO HELP CARE FOR ITS MEMBERS?
Advent DPC utilizes several technologies to help bring primary care into the modern era and improve each patient’s experience. The following are some of the programs Advent employs; all of which are provided to Advent DPC members free of charge:
• Hint Health – Hint is the platform used to setup, manage, and bill your Advent DPC membership. Hint is a web based product accessible from any internet browser.
• CareCloud / Breeze – CareCloud and its patient portal, Breeze, are used to maintain your health records, schedule appointments, and electronically prescribe medications to your pharmacy. Breeze is accessible on the web or through a simple iPhone or Android app.
• Spruce – This secure text messaging environment is HPAA compliant and allows patients to text their provider, as well as send photos and video clips. When necessary, Spruce also allows for secure video conferencing between patients and providers. Spruce is accessed through a convenient phone app, compatible with Apple and Android products.
V
DIRECT PRIMARY CARE AND INSURANCE
IS ADVENT DPC HEALTH INSURANCE?
Advent DPC is not a form of health insurance. Instead, it is a plan to provide comprehensive primary care through a fixed, prepaid, monthly membership.

WHY ADVENT DPC IS A GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO INSURANCE BASED PRIMARY CARE?
Current insurance based fee-for-service models can result in many problems. The only way to interact with a provider is through an in-person office visit, which can sometimes take weeks or months to schedule. Visits cost extra money and are often hurried and incomplete. The average visit in a traditional primary care practice provider is usually 10 minutes, or less. The cost of additional services is high and many times unknown until a bill is received. Specialists are required for many conditions and procedures that can easily be performed in the primary care setting. Advent DPC solves all of these problems with an affordable, accessible, fresh solution to primary care.

IF I JOIN ADVENT DPC, DO I STILL NEED INSURANCE?
A DPC membership is an excellent way to provide primary care for 80% or more of a patient’s ordinary healthcare needs, but is not a substitute for health insurance. Advent DPC pairs very well with catastrophic health insurance such as high deductible / HSA plans.

I DON’T HAVE INSURANCE. CAN I JOIN ADVENT DPC?
Yes. For patients without access to full health insurance, Advent DPC is an affordable way to access comprehensive primary care that will cover 80-90% of a patient’s ordinary healthcare needs. When needed, Advent DPC providers can also assist you with finding other specialty providers who will work with un-insured, cash pay patients.
